MagnorailOz evolved from the many inquiries we received from people watching the Magnorail @ Echo Lakes and later Magnorail @ Crater Lake videos on our YouTube channel. People also viewed the Echo Lakes and Crater Lake layouts at Model Train Exhibitions across Victoria Australia. They wanted to know where they could purchase the kits and bicycles, and so we thought we would approach Magnorail in Holland to see if we could become their Australasian reseller.
Having established a good relationship through our private purchases to integrate the two Magnorail systems into the Echo Lakes layout and the fact we were curating over 100 videos (at that time) on YouTube (now over 260), so they were more than happy to assist with MagnorailOz being created.
Echo Lakes system features a lake with boats, jet skis, yachts, pedal boats as well as speed boats with skiers in tow. The second section shows how a disused railway line and bridge bisecting the Echo Lakes layout was turned in to a Rail Trail for bicycles, walkers and the occasional light vehicle, like the Ice Cream van that circles the Rail Trail looking for customers. The Magnorail bicycles with their pedaling cyclists are a crowd pleaser with many onlookers mesmerised by the activity going on in such a small space. Small children believe it's magic, older ones know that magnets play a part whilst adults have a fair idea idea but still fail to see the clear wheel turning and moving and later the pedals.
A second iteration of Echo Lakes saw the rail trail extended too include two off ramps highlighting the flexibility of he Magnorail System in its capacity to go up and down hills and navigate 90 degree turns easily.
The most recent layout is Crater Lake, which features four Magnorail systems including a yacht racing course, speed boat run, bicycles plus an elevated roadway for speeding cars and other vehicles.
We also curate videos of all things Magnorail on YouTube and try to keep the list of videos up to date, Obviously European layouts feature, however I am hoping that the MagnorailOz website will stimulate more hobbyists to see the opportunity and magic that can be brought to model railroading in Australia and get a movie of their achievements on to YouTube.
The total flexibility in what can be moved around a layout is only restricted by a person's imagination and desire to get that magic working for them.
After discussions with the great team in the Netherlands we were given the green light to register the new business incorporating Magnorail's logo into an Aussie format that makes a distinctive statement. we will gradually build up our stock and aim to keep a full compliment of starter kits and accessories on hand which means slightly cheaper sets (reduced postage) for you and also faster delivery.
