What is the Magnorail System and how does it work?
Magnorail™ brings the magic of movement to your model train layout and dioramas. It has the solution for more activity on your layouts' streets, in the paddocks or hills and on water. The unique pedalling cyclists captivate onlookers who for the first time see scale cyclists actually pedalling through the magic of the Magnorail System.
Thanks to an invisible, highly engineered chain system, with strategically placed magnets, everything starts moving. Even better is the fact that the system is scale agnostic with all the motive power underneath your roadbed meaning you can place vehicles from Z to O gauge on the system. (Bicycles are only available in HO gauge though)
The Magnorail system invented in the Netherlands in 2012 has already seen hundreds of modellers from across the world buy their sets through MagnorailOz, and have already successfully incorporated the Magnorail system into their model railways and dioramas.
2026 has seen the introduction of the third generation chain system and is being hailed as the ultimate Magnorail System for the truly serious hobbyist. The new improved chain system gives smooth trouble free operation and its highly engineered links are easily installed with a minimum of fuss but with maximum strength linking together without the worry of breakages or pulling apart, superseding the previous blue chain in all aspects
How does it work? A plastic channel and chain system with magnets placed in correct sequence for a variety of effects, runs under the road or water surface. This highly engineered plastic chain is powered by a 12 Volt DC motor. Vehicles seemingly roll unaided across the road and boats, jet skis or yachts skim across the water surface of your layout. The combination of the moving chain under the roadbed with embedded magnets that pull the bike along, allows the clear centre wheel to interface with the road surface giving the attached articulated legs the illusion of people pedaling their bikes.
In Australia the Cato Lake layout seen at Victorian and interstate model train Exhibitions shows off the range of possibilities that the Magnorail System can bring to your layout especially in the area of water scenes.
In HO scale, the viewers favourites are the HO scale tandems with a couple going for a pleasant ride, whilst the pedalling Santa with his sack of presents on his back is a treat for children who see this red figure appear riding past them. Also available are single cyclists (male, female, postman , policeman, factory worker or sportsman on a mountain bike). The new HO scale fishing boat looks spectacular and you could have a whole fleet in the dock unloading their catch, with others cruising past.
A range of brass sliders are available for vehicles in scale TT, Z, N and HO/OO. This allows almost any car or vehicle in those scales to drive through your own model layout. You can set into motion vehicles of any period your layout is depicting, from any manufacturer! Or mopeds, motors boats - even skiers being towed... plus, vehicles can be swapped in seconds. Alternatively you can place a magnet on the fron axle just above the road surface and the vehicle will follow the track magnets all day long
