Yes you can technically have a gap But it requires two synced motors so that one is always pulling the chain whilst the other is pushing. Otherwise you will have the gap entering the drive area and there will be no chain for the O rings to engage and move the chain forward. As long as the chain is in one loop the gap should flow between the two motors
